Alexan Apartments
Project Description

The Alexan San Diego Apartments is a luxury 19-story, mixed-use residential tower located on a 50,250-square-foot lot in the heart of downtown San Diego’s East Village neighborhood. Completed in 2017 by Trammell Crow Residential, the project includes a 313-unit residential development composed of a Type I high-rise tower and an adjacent 4-story Type V low-rise building, offering a blend of upscale urban living and historic preservation.

The development spans 301,460 square feet of common and living space, plus 161,700 square feet of subterranean parking across three underground levels, providing 380 parking spaces for residents and guests. The property also features 1,100 square feet of ground-floor retail space and a suite of high-end amenities, including an 18th-floor rooftop pool and spa, a fitness center, mail room, and resident lounges—all offering panoramic views of the San Diego skyline and Pacific Ocean.

A signature feature of the project is the preservation and adaptive reuse of the historic 1800s-era Mexican Presbyterian Church, which was relocated on-site and transformed into a restaurant and beer garden, integrating cultural heritage into the modern development.

Baker Electric served as the design-build electrical and low voltage contractor, delivering comprehensive systems for the entire complex, including the high-rise and low-rise buildings, amenities, and the historic church. Scope of work also included upgrades and relocations to City of San Diego street lighting infrastructure, encompassing 18 new pole lights (including both "cobra" and gaslamp-style fixtures), approximately 800 linear feet of conduit, and 10–12 new street lighting pullboxes.
