Sheriff Technology and Information Center (STIC)
Project Description

This 47,000-square-foot, LEED Gold-certified facility was developed to consolidate and modernize operations for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Wireless Services and Data Services Divisions. The facility includes 40,000 square feet of administrative offices, operations areas, and warehouse space, along with a 7,000-square-foot critical data and wireless communications center that supports the County’s Emergency Communications System.

The site also features a 125-foot wireless communications tower and a versatile media center designed to support both the Sheriff’s Department and the County Office of Emergency Services. An outdoor plaza, typically used as an employee gathering space, is integrated with power and communication connections to enable rapid setup for media coverage during emergency events.

The new facility replaces outdated infrastructure that no longer met the operational and technological demands of the County. Careful phasing and coordination were critical to ensure there was no disruption to the adjacent County Emergency Operations Center or the region’s 911 backbone infrastructure throughout the design and construction process.

With a zoning layout that strategically separates emergency response operations from public-facing functions, the building was designed for resilience and operational continuity under all conditions—ensuring the County’s emergency communications and response capabilities remain robust, secure, and future-ready.
