Since 1938, Baker Electric has proudly called San Diego home. For generations, we have grown alongside this city, building its infrastructure, supporting its communities, and helping shape its future. That is why we are especially honored to partner with the City of San Diego and Everged to expand EV charging access across public spaces. This initiative is a key part of the city’s Climate Action Plan, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate the transition to clean transportation. The City Council has approved a contract with Everged, the exclusive EVSE provider selected through the City’s RFP process, to install hundreds of new EV charging stations. Baker Electric is leading the installation as the design-build electrical contractor.
We are proud to share that Phase 1 of this project is now complete. In this initial phase, our team replaced 54 aging chargers across 12 City-owned sites with modern, networked units. These upgrades are already delivering more reliable, accessible charging options to the public, and they represent just the beginning of a much larger effort.
This work is part of a 10-year initiative to build out a robust and equitable public EV charging network across San Diego. The City’s vision is to ensure that chargers are deployed not only in high-demand areas, but also in historically underserved neighborhoods. Future phases will prioritize installations at libraries, parks, pools, and recreation centers, helping to ensure that all communities benefit from clean transportation infrastructure.
As we move into these next phases, Baker Electric remains Everged’s trusted electrical contractor, continuing to bring our expertise, precision, and commitment to quality to every site we touch.
